4L80E Megashift and MS2

A forum for discussing applications and implementations of the MegaShift transmission controller code for the GPIO from B&G. This can control up to 8-speeds and 6 shift solenoids (plus a 16x9 table for controlling a PWM line pressure valve). It has manual and fully automatic modes (16x9 load x speed table), with under and over rev-limit protection, and full data logging of all inputs and outputs (among many other abilities). A TransStim to test your completed board is also available.

4L80E Megashift and MS2

Post by flak monkey »

I've got an MS2 extra ECU in my '80 Camaro and I am about to fit a 4L80E transmission and need a controller so am planning to use the Megashift.

I've spent a while looking through the manuals for both the MS2 and the Megashift and I seem to be missing something somewhere...

I don't currently have any CAN set up on the MS2 - nor have I ever played with it on previous installations. I'm using all of the SPR outputs on the MS2 DB37 connector for various things, so I'll have to bring them out on another connector somewhere. I assume it is as simple as running some jumper cables from JS6 and JS8 to another connector and hooking them into the GPIO ampseal connector? Is there any code modifications required other than adding the Megashift as a CAN device in the MS2 project?

To be honest the CAN pages on the MSExtra site are just plain confusing to someone who knows nothing about it.

flak monkey,

Did you see this: http://www.msgpio.com/manuals/mshift/cpt.html ? It details all the required connections, and there is a video on setting up TS too (http://www.msgpio.com/manuals/mshift/CAN_setup.wmv).

You will also want to check this link: http://www.msgpio.com/manuals/mshift/V5tune.html#oa for user settings specific to MS2extra (in a box labelled "MShift™, CANbus, and MS/Extra Code").

Hi Lance, thanks for the links. I was perhaps being too specific in looking at the Megashift only pages. Makes more sense now
