Re: Ford Auto trans details

Daniel, I'm thinking we ought to be able to have either the voltages or the resistances as parameters in MegaTune, then the code can convert these to ADC counts and compare to the measured value to find the current gear (with software debounce, of course). Then we *should* be able to make one code w...

Re: Ford Auto trans details

DMX, devojet; Okay, so MShift will supply the Vref through connector C168 (my concern was that if the existing 5V is supplied in the harness in a manner that is difficult to disable because it doesn't terminate at one of the transmission connectors, but fed in somewhere else - in which case we'd lik...

Re: Ford Auto trans details

DMX, This is very helpful, it is quite clear (and the text boxes help). It looks like the voltage source for the divider comes from the trans (GY/R wire) and the resultant voltage is sent to the PCM on the LB/Y wire. If anyone has a pic of this switch, that would be great. What I am particularly int...

Re: Ford Auto trans details

DMX,

Thanks, that's helpful! It would be interesting to know if the pull-up is in the ECU or in the transmission itself. I'll dig around and see if I can find out.

Lance.

Re: 4L60E 4WD application info request

dch, Ah, okay, that's why I hadn't heard about it. The person I spoke with must have been referring to the 4L80E. I knew these had 2 VR sensors, one on the input shaft and one on the output shaft. So for the 4L80E the VSS must be read from the transfer case in 4WD, otherwise it is read from the outp...

Re: Ford Auto trans details

Daniel, Okay, great, I need to get the test units out, then I'll look at adding this to the code (both the resistance based manual gear lever position and the 2 extra outputs). The shift solenoids will be completely user settable (i.e., each one either on or off for each shift - I'll probably includ...

Re: Ford Auto trans details

Daniel, The code has two spare outputs already. I could add the option to set the state of these during a shift, but that would only work if the state was the same on each shift. A better way would probably be to use a couple of unused pins (all the output circuits are currently used, so we would re...

Re: Ford Auto trans details

devojet, What I am planning to do is let the user specify the resistances via MegaTune. That way most such schemes could be accommodated. But it's helpful to know the actual values, so we can set the circuits up properly for maximum resolution (and less fussiness for the user!). So thanks for what y...

4L60E 4WD application info request

All, It was mentioned at the Calgary MegaMeet this weekend that for a 4L60E equipped vehicle, a given vehicle speed sensor output frequency means different road speeds depending on whether you are in 4-wheel drive or not. We can use an input to tell the processor to adjust the computed speed based o...

Ford Auto trans details

All, At this weekend's meet in Calgary, it was noted that the Ford electronically controlled auto transmissions use a scheme to identify the shift lever position that used changing resistance (instead of a switch manifold and 3 digital inputs on the GM 4L60E). Does anyone have reliable specs on what...
